Everything you need to install Larp Mod and get the most out of it. Version 1.0.0.

Requirements

Larp Mod is a client-side Fabric mod for Minecraft: Java Edition. Pick the jar that matches the game version you play.

MinecraftLarp Mod jarFabric LoaderJava
1.21.11LarpMod-1.0.0-mc1.21.11.jar0.17 or newer21
26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2LarpMod-1.0.0-mc26.1.x.jar0.19 or newer25
26.2LarpMod-1.0.0-mc26.2.jar0.19 or newer25
26.3LarpMod-1.0.0-mc26.3.jar0.19 or newer25

You also need Fabric API for the same Minecraft version. The official Minecraft launcher already comes with the right Java, so you don't have to install it yourself.

Install

  1. Download the Fabric installer, run it, choose your Minecraft version and click Install.
  2. Download Fabric API for the same version.
  3. Open your mods folder:
    • Windows: press Win + R, type %appdata%\.minecraft\mods and press Enter.
    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods
    • Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods
If the mods folder isn't there yet, create it.
  4. Put Fabric API and the Larp Mod jar from your purchase email into that folder.
  5. Open the Minecraft launcher, pick the fabric-loader profile and press Play.
Using Prism, MultiMC, Modrinth App or CurseForge? Make a Fabric instance for your version and drop the same two jars into its mods folder.

First launch

Join any world or server and press your Larp Mod key (J unless you changed it in Controls). A short intro plays the first time (you can turn it and its sound off in settings). The menu has four tabs: Identity, Capes, Ghosts and Players.

You can also open the menu from the title screen, but the previews need you to be in a world to show your player.

Identity

Fake name

Type a name and switch it on. It replaces your name on your nametag, in chat and in the Tab list. Commands you type still use your real name, so /msg, /tpa and friends keep working.

Become

Turn on Become and Larp Mod looks up the player with that name and gives you their real skin (slim or classic arms included) and their cape. Lookups wait until you stop typing, so Mojang's servers aren't spammed.

Name colour, icons and visibility

A few names have surprises. Try deadmau5.

Capes

The Capes tab lists every official cape, grouped into Common, Event & Promo, MineCon, Special & Staff and One-of-a-kind. Click one to wear it. Hover a cape to flip it and see the inside, and press the i button for its story.

Cape Editor

Open it from the Capes tab with ✎ Cape Editor.

Skins

The Skin Editor lets you paint every side of every body part, on both the base layer and the see-through outer layer. Start from your own skin, any player's skin by name, or an imported PNG. Saved skins can be worn, given to ghosts, or given to other players.

Ghosts

Ghosts are fake players that only exist in your game. Give each one a name, skin, cape, armour and held items (enchant glint included), then pick what it does.

Moves

Walk, Sprint, Back & Forth, Follow Me, Walk in Place, Strafe, Jump, Crouch Spam, Punch Spam, Look Around, Look at Me, Look at Me (Delay), Nod Yes, Shake No and Crawl. Mix any of them, choose one of three speeds, and save combinations as presets.

More

Players & Tab list

Change how other players look to you: give them a different name, name colour, skin or cape, or make them Become someone else. It works even when they're offline, and Larp Mod remembers who was on each server so your edits are ready next time.

To rearrange the Tab list, hold Tab and press your Larp Mod key, then drag names into the order you want.

Looks & sharing

Looks

A look saves your whole setup: name, colour, skin and cape. Switch looks in one click, or set a look to go on by itself when you join a certain server or world.

Share codes

Share a look, skin or cape and Larp Mod copies a code. Your friend presses Paste Code in the Looks tab. Codes too long for a Discord message are saved as a file instead: send the file, and your friend drags it onto their game window.

Backups

Save everything (settings, looks, skins, capes, ghosts) into one .zip, and load it on another PC. Daily auto backups are off by default. Turn them on and Larp Mod keeps the newest 5 in .minecraft/larpmod-backups. Any backup can be loaded or deleted from the Backups screen.

Themes & language

Pick from 14 menu themes, including Rainbow. The menus are available in English, Русский, Français and Español. Everything works at any window size and GUI scale.

Larp Mod has no chat commands. Everything is in the menu.

Files & settings

API & mod developers

Larp Mod doesn't have a public API yet. It's a client-side mod with no commands and no server component, and everything it changes stays inside your own game.

Troubleshooting

The game crashes on start

Check that the Larp Mod jar, Fabric API and Fabric Loader all match your Minecraft version (see Requirements). Only one Larp Mod jar should be in the mods folder.

Pressing J does nothing

Another mod may use J. Go to Options → Controls → Key Binds, find Larp Mod and pick another key.

A skin or cape doesn't load

Skins come from Mojang. If you look up a lot of names fast, Mojang slows you down for a minute. Wait a moment and it loads.

A server kicked me

Some servers don't allow any client mods at all. Larp Mod doesn't send anything to servers, but always follow the server's rules.
